Academics

Minor/Double Major

This system allows students to broaden their academic understanding and appropriately respond to the changing society by completing courses from other majors beyond their primary major through a prescribed procedure.

POSTECH offers department-specific minors, double majors, as well as interdisciplinary studies minors and interdisciplinary studies majors that integrate various academic fields. There are 12 department-specific minors, 12 department-specific double majors, 9 interdisciplinary studies minors, and 9 interdisciplinary studies majors.

Application Period

Applications can be made during the same period as course registration. Once approved, they will be applied from the following semester.

Procedure

  • STEP 01

    Complete at least one course in the minor or double major

    ※ You must complete at least one course related to the minor or double major one semester prior to applying.

    ※ Interdisciplinary Studies Minor and Interdisciplinary Studies Major do not require prior completion of the course.

  • STEP 02

    Log into POVIS

  • STEP 03

    Apply for the desired major program

    ※ POVIS → Academic Affairs → Status Change/Academic Records → Double Major/Minor

  • STEP 04

    Consult with your advisor

    ※ Approval from both your academic advisor and the "Head Professor (or responsible professor)" of the desired major is required. Inform your academic advisor of your application and schedule a meeting in their office.

  • STEP 05

    Approval process

    ※ Check the final result (rejected or approved) on POVIS

Requirements

 You must meet the requirements for the specific major according to the year of admission. For details, refer to the ‘Department-Specific Minor/Double Major Requirements.’
  • Minor/Interdisciplinary Studies Minor: At least 21 credits must be completed according to the guidelines of each major.
  • Double Major/Interdisciplinary Studies Major: At least 35 credits must be completed according to the guidelines of each major.
Department-Specific Minor/Double Major Requirements

Additional Information

  • Some departments designate specific minor or double major courses, but for those that do not, you must follow the guidance of the head professor (or responsible professor) to complete the program systematically.
  • It is not permitted to double-count credits for the same course towards both major and minor requirements, but double-counting for a double major and interdisciplinary studies minor or interdisciplinary studies major is allowed.
  • Even if you complete the courses required for a double major, you will not be awarded a degree unless you also meet the credit requirements for your primary major.
  • A degree for a double major will only be awarded if the graduation requirements for both the primary and double major are fulfilled, and the degree certificate will be awarded with the primary major degree.
  • Even if you complete the courses required for a minor or interdisciplinary studies minor, the minor qualification will not be recognized if you do not meet the credit requirements for your primary major.
