Academic Policy

Leave of Absence Category

  • General Leave of Absence: In case you cannot enroll for a semester or take classes for more than 4 weeks after the beginning of a semester due to business start-up accompanying corporation establishment, disease, family affairs and other unexpected reasons.
  • Military Leave of Absence: In case you are enlisted in the military.

Military Enlistment Leave the application should be submitted immediately upon receipt of the enlistment notice during the semester to which your military enlistment date belongs; the application should be submitted after the class end date. Leave of absence application form (POVIS application): 1 copy, the enlistment notice: 1 copy

Procedures

  • STEP 01

    Apply for a Leave of Absence

    - [POVIS > Academic Affairs > Status Change/Academic Policy > Leave of Absence (attach scanned related documents)]

  • STEP 02

    Consult with Your Advisor

    - Consult with your advisor personally

  • STEP 03

    Approve Leave of Absence

    - After the leave of absence form is confirmed by your department and the related accounting department, proceed with the online approval (check processing results and status updates on POVIS).

    ※ Borrowers of library books must return them before applying for a leave of absence on POVIS.

  • STEP 04

    Checks for any special issues

    - The academic affairs team checks for any special issues (such as tuition payment related to the leave of absence) and proceeds with guidance for the relevant students.

  • STEP 05

    Final result

    - Check the final result (rejected or approved) on POVIS.

Important Information

  • A general leave of absence cannot exceed two semesters at a time and must not total more than four semesters.
  • Despite the rule above, leaves of absence due to business start-ups, pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare can be extended up to an additional four semesters (for male students, a maximum of two semesters for childcare leave).
  • Military leave of absence is determined by the mandatory service period as per the Military Service Act and is not counted in the number of leave periods.

Additional Information

  • Students who enlist in the military during a general leave or suspension must submit an application for military leave of absence.
  • Students who are discharged home during their military service leave must change their status to general leave. However, if the discharge occurs within 1/4 of the semester, returning to school is possible with a homecoming certificate attached.
  • Leave taken during the semester will nullify grades for that semester regardless of the circumstances, and course registrations will be automatically deleted.
