Domestic Undergraduate Scholarships

Basic Scholarship Policy

All admitted students at POSTECH receive full scholarships upon enrollment. If they meet the continuous support criteria set by POSTECH, they can receive tuition support (Basic Scholarship) for the full 8 semesters of their regular program.

Types of Basic Scholarships

Types of Basic Scholarships
Scholarships Type Additional Information
Presidential Science Scholarship The government selects outstanding students with high potential in science and technology fields and provides full tuition, academic incentive funds, and living expenses (for students eligible for basic living assistance).
National Excellence Scholarship (STEM) The government selects exceptional students with the potential to become core professionals in science and technology and provides full tuition and living expenses (for students eligible for basic living assistance).
Jigok Scholarship The Jigok Scholarship is awarded to students who do not receive the Presidential Science Scholarship or the National Excellence Scholarship (STEM) but demonstrate strong potential in their academic fields.

Continued Support Criteria for Basic Scholarship

If students meet the continued support criteria required for the type of Basic Scholarship they receive, the scholarship can be granted for up to 8 semesters.

  • Common Criteria: At least 12 credits earned in the previous semester and a minimum GPA of 3.3 or a percentile rank of 87 (3.0/4.3 scale).

    -The criteria for Basic Scholarship support may vary or change based on the specific policy.

    -The Jigok Scholarship follows the continued support criteria of the National Excellence Scholarship (STEM).

Permanent Disqualification Criteria for Basic Scholarship

If students meet any of the permanent disqualification criteria for the type of Basic Scholarship they receive, they will lose their eligibility for the scholarship, and any awarded funds must be returned. For detailed criteria beyond the items listed here, please refer to the POVIS system or contact the relevant office.

Presidential Science Scholarship
  • For first-year recipients: failure to meet the continued support criteria for 2 consecutive semesters.
  • For third-year recipients: failure to meet the continued support criteria for 1 semester.
  • If the student advances to a non-STEM field or changes their major to a field outside of STEM, etc.
National Excellence Scholarship (STEM)
  • Failure to meet the continued support criteria for 2 semesters within the first 2 years(1st and 2nd year).
  • Failure to meet the mid-term evaluation criteria (2+2)*

    *Failure to meet the mid-term evaluation criteria (2+2)

    • Target: Students entering the 5th semester
    • Academic Performance: Cumulative percentile rank of 87(3.0) or higher over 4 semesters
    • Credits Earned: Completion of at least 40% of the required graduation credits over 4 semesters
  • Failure to meet the continued support criteria for 1 semester during the additional 2 years of support (3rd and 4th year), etc.
Jigok Scholarship
  • Follows the permanent disqualification criteria of the National Excellence Scholarship (STEM).
