POSTECH (Pohang University of Science and Technology) officially opened a shared office space for startups in Washington, D.C., in collaboration with the Korea Innovation Center Washington (KIC-Washington), an agency under Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT. The opening ceremony took place on July 23 (local time), marking POSTECH’s active commitment to supporting Korean startups’ global expansion.

This newly established office is part of POSTECH’s Glocal Institutions Initiative and will serve as a strategic base for Korean startups aiming to expand into the North American market. It provides a practical growth platform by offering both physical infrastructure and localized support. The opening ceremony was attended by key representatives from both organizations, including KIC-Washington President Chang Hee Kim, POSTECH President Seong Keun Kim and Vice President for Industry-Academic Affairs Jeongsoo Lee.

In conjunction with the office opening, POSTECH and KIC-Washington signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen their partnership in supporting the global scale-up of startups. The two institutions agreed to collaborate in multiple areas, including:

● Joint promotion and marketing to discover promising startups,

● Support for POSTECH-affiliated startups entering the North American market,

● Shared use of startup support facilities, and

● Joint initiatives to achieve mutual goals.

The office spans approximately 126 square meters and is equipped with essential amenities such as complimentary internet, utilities such as electricity and water, an access control system, and office furniture. It also offers access to key growth programs including “Pitch & Demo Days” and support for conference participation—providing valuable networking and business development opportunities to help startups establish a strong global presence.

“POSTECH’s shared office in Washington D.C will serve as a crucial launchpad for Korean startups seeking to enter the North American market and integrate into the global innovation ecosystem,” said POSTECH President Seong Keun Kim. “Together with KIC-Washington, we will intensify our efforts to identify and nurture high-potential startups.”
