POSTECH researchers have achieved global recognition as the “highly cited researchers” for two consecutive years, solidifying their position as leaders in their field.

On November 19 (local time), Clarivate, a global academic information analytics company, announced its annual list of Highly Cited Researchers (HCR) in the Cross-field category. Among those honored were Professor Junsuk Rho from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Chemical Engineering, and the Department of Electrical Engineering at POSTECH and Dr. Min Gyu Kim from the Energy Environment Research Team of PLS II Beamline Department at Pohang Accelerator Laboratory. Professor Rho has earned this distinction for the second consecutive year while Dr. Kim has been recognized for three years in a row.

Clarivate selects the top 1% of researchers based on the number of citations for research papers over the past 10 years, representing just 0.1% of researchers globally. The HCR list, published annually to encourage knowledge expansion and innovation across disciplines, serves as an important indicator of a researcher’s academic contribution.

Professor Junsuk Rho is a globally renowned expert in meta-materials that manipulate light and the meta-optics platforms based on them. His research has been featured in prestigious journals such as “Nature” and “Science.” Similarly, Dr. Min Gyu Kim has significantly advanced next-generation energy technologies by researching energy storage and conversion materials including secondary batteries, solar cells, and fuel cells, leveraging the PLS-II.

This year, a total of 6,636 researchers from 1,200 institutions across 59 countries were recognized on the HCR list. Among them, 75 individuals from Korea were honored, including Professor Junsuk Rho and Dr. Min Gyu Kim.
