Living in POHANG

POHANG is a great place to live, work, and visit.

POSTECH is located in Pohang, 270 km southeast of Seoul in the North Gyeongsang Province. Pohang was once a rural fishing village until POSCO was founded on its shores in 1968. From that point in history, Pohang rapidly developed into a major industrial city. In 1986, POSTECH was established, and Pohang has since flourished into a cutting-edge Science and Technology Hub.

  • 호미곶 일출

    Homigot Sunrise

    This scenic place, the first place to see the sunrise, is at the eastern extremity of the Korean peninsula. Sa-go Gyeokam Nam, the feng shui scholar during the reign of King Myeongjong of the Joseon dynasty in the 16th century, described this place as the tail of the tiger considering the shape of the national territory and the best and matchless propitious site. Nam-seon Yukdang Choi regarded this place, famous for its beautiful sunrise, as one of the Twelve Scenic Spots of Joseon while depicting the Korean peninsula as the tiger clawing at the maritime province with its forepaw.

    Space Walk

    Space Walk is a unique track 333 meters high with 717  steps in total. The curved steel frame with bright lightings portray the symbol of Pohang "the city of  steel and light." Visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the city and factories, as well as enjoy amazing sunsets and sunrises.

    Hometown Cha-Cha-ChaFilming Locations

    Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha (2021) is a romantic drama set in the fictional seaside village of Gongjin, portrayed  by Pohang. Just 2 hours and 20 minutes from Seoul by KTX, Pohang invites you to follow in the footsteps of  Du-sik and Hye-jin amidst its cerulean waters.

    Pohang International FireworksFestival

    In Pohang, the "City of Fire and Light," the Pohang International Fire & Light Festival celebrates its  heritage with dazzling fireworks, light parades, and creative performances. Originating in 2004, it has  grown into a global event blending industry.

    Jukdo Market

    Pohang Jukdo Market, established over 50 years ago, is one of Gyeongsangbuk-do's largest traditional markets, with 1,500 shops offering local goods and fresh seafood. 
  • 호미반도 해안 트레일

    Homibando Coastal Trail

    The Homibando Peninsula Coastal Trail is a scenic trekking route stretching an impressive 58 kilometers  along Pohang's coastline. Along this trail, visitors can  encounter the stunning Giam Cliff and the mesmerizing  dance of the waves.
  • 포항 운하

    Pohang Canal

    Recognized as one of the Top 100 Korean Tourism Sites in 2017–2018, it is Korea's first urban canal.  Visitors can enjoy a cruise that evokes the charm  and nostalgic memories of Pohang's past.
  • 내연산 보경사 시립공원

    Naeyeonsan Bogyeongsa Municipal Park

    Naeyeonsan Bogyeongsa Municipal Park features the historic Bogyeongsa Temple and the 710-meter Naeyeonsan Mountain, known for its twelve waterfalls and towering cliffs. The temple, dating back to the Silla period, houses treasures like the stele and stupa of State Preceptor Wonjin.

    Gyeongju

    Gyeongju is a city rich in history, offering a blend of ancient Silla heritage, stunning cultural sites, and natural beauty. Located about 50 km from Pohang, it takes approximately 1 hour by car, depending on traffic conditions. Key attractions in Gyeongju include the Bomun Tourist Complex, a popular spot featuring a lake, resorts, and cultural sites. Daereungwon, home to the royal tombs of the Silla Dynasty, offers a glimpse into the region's ancient past. Donggung and Wolji, an ancient palace site with beautiful gardens and a pond, are especially enchanting at night. The National Gyeongju Museum showcases the region’s rich history and cultural heritage, while Bulguksa Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most iconic temples in Korea. Finally, Gyeongju Yangdong Village, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, provides a peek into traditional Korean life with its preserved hanok village.

    Daegu

    Daegu is a dynamic city that blends modernity with tradition, offering a wide range of cultural, historical, and natural attractions. Located about 120 km from Pohang, it is approximately 1.5 hours by car. A top natural spot is Palgongsan Mountain, ideal for hiking and scenic views. Another tranquil location is Suseongmot Lake, popular for walking paths and boating. Daegu Stadium & Samsung Lions Park offers exciting sports events and is home to Daegu FC and the Samsung Lions. For a taste of local culture, visit Seomun Market, a traditional market offering food and handicrafts. The 83 Tower provides panoramic views of the city. Art lovers can explore the Daegu Art Museum and the Kansong Art Museum, showcasing traditional and contemporary art.

    Busan

    Busan is a vibrant coastal city known for its beautiful beaches, bustling port, and rich cultural heritage. From the stunning Haeundae Beach to the historic Gamcheon Culture Village, Busan offers a unique mix of modern attractions and traditional charm. The city also boasts the scenic Gwangalli Beach and the iconic Songdo Bridge & Marine Sea Car, offering breathtaking coastal views. Nature lovers can enjoy the panoramic views at Taejongdae Park, or visit the tranquil Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, Gijang by the sea.
